Call to co-opt small firms Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Chadzamira

Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs Ezra Chadzamira has challenged big firms to include small players in their supply chains to ensure sustainable economic growth in the province as the country heads towards becoming an upper middle income economy by 2030.

Minister Chadzamira said it was critical for small businesses to benefit from contracts awarded by big firms in line with the spirit of devolution which seeks to make each province grow its own Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In his address during an all-stakeholders meeting at Jerera Growth Point on Tuesday, Minister Chadzamira said a number of small businesses across the province were struggling, hence the need to assist them by involving them in the value chain.

“Even Zaka has got the potential to expand and grow due to availability of natural resources that include water from big dams like Manjerenje, Banga, Siya, Mabvute among others for irrigation farming,” he said.

“There are also mining opportunities here as well as human capital. However, a number of small businesses will continue to suffer if they go it alone without assistance from big entities.”

Zaka Central legislator Cde Davison Svuure said small business needed to be capacitated and promoted through policy.

“The devolution of power concept by the Government will allow small businesses to grow,” he said. “What is needed is policy support, at the same time let us take advantage of available natural resources in our region to make sure that Zimbabwe becomes a middle income economy by 2030.”

Cde Svuure called upon youths to come up with innovative ideas that will see help grow the agricultural sector.
