By God we are created, by God we are taken: VP Chiwenga Flashback . . . Vice President Constantino Chiwenga (right) and the late Agriculture Minister Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri

Condolence message in respect of Air Chief Marshal Retired Perrance Shiri by the Honourable Vice President of Zimbabwe General (Retired) Dr C G D N Chiwenga

As Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and on behalf of Staff in my office, I join His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the entire nation in mourning the untimely passing on of the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri.

I learnt with utter disbelief, deep shock and obvious denial of the untimely passing on of this childhood friend, school mate, battle buddy, adviser/counsellor and compatriot, in the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, 2020.

The late Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Shiri was a hardworking, loyal, focused, decisive and resolute patriot, who dedicated his life to serving his country.

He was born a realist and never took anything for granted.

Right from a tender age of 18, he decided to walk the road less travelled, then by sacrificing his youthful life towards the liberation of his beloved country from blatant, unjustified occupation and mass oppression.

He continued with his gallantry and distinguished service into independence, when he proved beyond any shadow of doubt that he was not only a capable military commander/leader but also an astute strategic thinker.

The late Air Chief (Retired) Shiri was also an agile and affable personality. This helped him in a big way to transition from being a Service Chief to leading the Agriculture Ministry in its noble quest to regain the regional leadership in food production and agricultural productivity, towards sustainable national food security and nutrition.

As the Hon, Vice President responsible for Economic Ministries, including that of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, I am saddened by the timing of his passing on, when the vision for the agricultural sector, which he championed, was becoming a reality, with tangible results on the ground.

Your efforts are not in vain, Air Chief Marshal (Retired)  Shiri. You played your good part. Our duty is to continue with your legacy of patriotism in defence of the nation and hard work towards improving the lot of our people.

The country is poorer without you.

My heartfelt condolences, to the Shiri family during this difficult time. May you find comfort in knowing that you are in our prayers during this difficult time.

By God we are created and by God we are taken. So long Comrade. May your dear soul rest in eternal peace.
