A HECTIC 2024 motorsport season lies ahead, starting with the opening round of the six-round Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series at Donnybrook Park Raceway in Harare tomorrow.

Local motorsport officials are going to have their hands full as they prepare for a busy season in the several motorsport codes that they run in this country ranging from motocross, main circuit racing, drag racing to karting.

The Ezytrack Race Day, which will be held at Donnybrook on March 3, headlines eight rounds of main circuit racing events that will be held across the season.

Main circuit racing events will once again be divided between Harare and Bulawayo with the latter hosting the last race of the year, the 3-Hour Endurance Race Day on December 7.

Not to be left behind is drag racing which has lined-up a series of events in Harare and Bulawayo, starting with the season-opener in the City of Kings and Queens on March 9.

The other drag racing race meetings have been slated for April 14 (Harare), July 6 (Bulawayo), August 25 (Harare), October 5 (Bulawayo) and December 1 (Harare).

Flat track racing have already kick-started their season as they held their opening round on February 10 at Donnybrook.

The other five rounds are scheduled to be staged at Donnybrook on May 11, June 29, August 31, October 26 and November 16.

There will also be the Victoria Falls Enduro on April 26, 27 and 28 followed by the Arcadia Enduro at Arcadia Dam on November 22 and 23.

But the 2024 motorsport season explodes into life tomorrow at Donnybrook as it hosts the opening round of the six-round Bogwheelers Club National Motocross Championship series which brings together all the top dirt bike riders of this country.

The motocross Nationals will have its other races on March 24, May 19, June 23, July 21 and September 22, all at the home of the sport in this country — Donnybrook.

The 2024 motocross season will end with the ever popular Zimbabwe Summer Series which has been slated for December 11, 13 and 15 at Donnybrook.

Two Supercross (night racing) race meetings (December 11 and 13) and a full day of motocross action (December 15) have once again been pencilled for this year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series.

The series is now enjoying a massive financial support from prominent Harare businessman and politician Scott Sakupwanya through his Better Brands Petroleum company.

The company is also sponsoring the National Championship series as the sport of motocross continues to grow in this country.

More than 5 000 motorsport enthusiasts watched last year’s Zimbabwe Summer Series at Donnybrook in December, all through the financial support that motocross is now enjoying from Better Brands Petroleum.

Sakupwanya’s two young sons, Mudiwa and Judah, are already into motocross and they made their debut at Donnybrook in 2022 after having been introduced to this exciting sport by Brighton “Bucks” Bako.

Bako is the father of local motocross champion rider Emmanuel Bako who is expected to lead other top riders at tomorrow’s opening round of the Bogwheelers Club National Championship series at Donnybrook.
