BINDURA University of Science Education (BUSE) is set to establish an industrial park in Bindura in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision of configuring the education sector to produce goods and services.

The park will be developed on a 21 875-hectare plot at Kingston Farm that was identified by Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution Monica Mavhunga

The university’s vice chancellor Professor Eddie Mwenje said in line with this thrust, the institution has a strong natural products research group which is ready to produce and release products onto the market.

He said their research and innovation thrust as a Science institution covers the areas of tourism, environment, agriculture, climate change mitigation, human and animal health.

“In order to facilitate the establishment of an industrial park, the province through Minister of State and Devolution for Mashonaland Central Monica Mavhunga, identified a 21 875ha plot for the establishment of an industrial park at Kingston Farm. We are waiting for the transfer of the land to the university.

“The university is grateful for the donation of land for the industrial park,” he said.

“President Mnangagwa, in his address to the 74th United Nations General Assembly in New York recently, alluded to the fact that nation was configuring the education sector to provide goods and services,” he said.

“In line with this thrust, the university has a strong natural products research group which is ready to release products into the market.

“The university has completed the prototype testing of a sustainable broiler chicken feed based on Moringa oleifera leaves.

“It was shown that the project is commercially viable and is now ready for scaling up, which involves setting up of a feed manufacturing plant and diversification to include the production of pellets for road runners and rabbits.

“The project is expected to contribute close to US$1 million to the GDP by 2023.”

He said the university has assisted in the establishment of the Moringa Farmers’ Association, which is made up of farmers keen on growing Moringa and added that these goods and services will impact positively on peoples’ lives.
