THE National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness Association have released their 2016 calendar for which the highlights of the year will be the Mr and Ms Novice and Mr and Ms Zimbabwe contests.

The association will get into the New Year with a full calendar that will see several athletes competing in different categories.

Champion “Mbewe” Chienderamwano’s dominance in the senior category will be put to test in the Mr Zimbabwe where he has been the champion for three years.

The Botswana-based Chienderamwano will as usual get tough competition from Isaac “Sugar” Chimuchenga who gave him the much needed competition last year. Quiet Shangai, the NFZBBF spokesperson, said they have lined up several competitions that will begin in March.

“We have set up the bodybuilding 2016 competitions schedule and we look forward to a competitive and exciting year.

“The athletes will take part in both local and international tournaments and it is our hope that we will continue to give competition in regional and international competitions,” Shangai said.

The contestants will begin with the Mr and Ms Novice on March 26 won last year by Brian Saundombe who took over the title from Blessing Nyapimbi while Edmore Yomani was runner-up and Learnmore Mhlanga was second runner-up. Ray Mutandiro grabbed the men’s Under-21 title beating Patrick Foko and second runner-up Lee Dzinzi.

The Ms Novice was won by Marylyn Mangoto as Shantell Batch took the female fitness figure.

After the Mr and Ms Novice, the Mr Schools will be held on April 16 and a three-month break will be cut short by the Mr and Ms Iron man set for August 27.

Provincial competitions like the Mr Harare, Bulawayo Manicaland will be held before August 31 and it will be the Mr Manicaland which will be highly competitive as Blessing Samaringa will be put to test again.

“Wasu’’, as Samaringa is affectionately known, has dominated the Manicaland title for several years now.

The Strongman Zimbabwe will be held at a date to be announced while the Mr and Ms Zimbabwe is slated for October 29.
