NEWBOYS Beta XI have taken pole position in the Ruyamuro Service Station Northern Region Division One championship race. Their closest rivals Cranborne Bullets and Golden Valley suffered some shock defeats at the weekend.

Beta XI are now three points clear at the top after they dismissed Chinhoyi Stars 2-0 in the Mashonaland West provincial town on Saturday.

Two goals from Kamarongoshi Chidzero in the 14th minute and Taurai Gerald in the 59th minute were enough to see the Highfield-based side collect maximum points.

Cranbone Bullets and Golden Valley suffered identical 1-0 away losses to Trojan Stars and Banket United.
Nesbert Saruchera’s Cranborne Bullets lost their first game of the season to Ikabort Masocha’s Trojan Stars.

Ignatius Kapitapita’s Golden Valley suffered their third defeat of the season at the hands of Banket United at Kuwadzana.
Beta XI secretary-general, Godfrey Chikwende, said they were happy with how their season was turning out.

“We are very happy that we are now on top of the log for the first time this season and I think hard work is playing a pivotal role.

“There is need to remain focused as the season is still on going and I believe the youngsters are doing well and I attribute this to teamwork.

“We are happy that the technical team and players are playing with one objective and we look forward to continue collecting points.

‘’There is unity within the team which I believe is helping us a lot,” said Chikwende.
Mushowani Stars were restricted to a goalless draw by visiting Ngezi Platinum Stars Under-19 at home.
