A Beitbridge man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for breaking into his brother-in-law’s house and stealing ZAR4 900.
Nigel Masona (23) was initially sentenced to 24 months in prison before four months were suspended for five years.
However, four months were suspended on the condition that he restitutes his brother-in-law.
The court heard that Masona forcibly opened the door to his in-law’s house, broke into a safe, and made off with ZAR4 900.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said, “On October 20, 2024, the complainant closed all the windows and locked all doors before he left the house with his wife.
“While he was away, he received a call from a neighbour informing him that there was a trespasser at his home.
“The neighbour later informed him that it was his brother-in-law who was at the house. When the complainant returned, he discovered that the door had been forced open, the safe had been broken into and ZAR4900.
“A police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused person.”
