A Beatrice man, Tafirenyika Kawaza (46) is reportedly on the run after he allegedly killed his housemate in cold blood following a misunderstanding.
The incident occurred on September 10 at around 8pm at Lanark Farm, Beatrice.
Allegations are that the now deceased Mr Christian Chisora and Kawaza were staying at the same house and on the fateful day, reports are that Chisora (51) was chatting with Kawaza’s wife while the latter was busy cooking supper for the family.
It is alleged that while the two were chatting, Kawaza was inside the house and he overheard the conversation which infuriated him and a fight erupted between him and Mr Chisora.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi confirmed the incident in a statement.
“Kawaza who was seated in the dining room overheard them and this did not go down well with him since it is said he had a long-time domestic dispute with his wife.
“He then took a kitchen knife and an unknown metal weapon and proceeded to the now-deceased (in the) verandah.
“Upon arrival, Kawaza had an altercation with Chisora resulting in a fight. Kawaza allegedly hit Chisora with a metal object several times on the head, sat on top of his stomach and cut his throat with a knife.
“Kawaza’s son, Enock (19) who was also in the dining room heard the noise and rushed outside to the scene to restrain his father, he tried to disarm him but was also cut on the right middle finger.
“Sensing danger, Enock and his mother fled the scene and went to a neighbour’s house and the three of them came back to the scene where they found Chisora in a pool of blood, dead, and Kawaza had already disappeared,” he said.
Insp Chazovachiyi said a police report was made on the same day at Beatrice Police Station and Kawaza’s body was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while Enock was referred to Beatrice Hospital for treatment.
