Comedian-cum-author Jairosi Nyamayaro says he is working on drama skits to be streamed online.

The 25-year-old is celebrating the launch of his fifth book “Zvinhu Zvose Ndezvedu” which he said was inspired by societal settings and life experiences.

In an interview with The Herald Arts, Nyamayaro said the church had played a pivotal role in moulding him to be where he is, which he depicts too in the book.

“In my latest book ‘Zvinhu Zvose Ndezvedu’, which is my first Shona publication, I placed a lot of stories about my past and the things the Holy Spirit taught me. I can say the book is of the Holy Spirit because as I was writing, I felt the presence of God,” he said.

“I would love to bless someone with it for free. I don’t write to get paid, I write to impact the world. Though the book ‘Zvinhu Zvose Ndezvedu’, is selling at a price, it is the contents of it that is worthy.”

The Media and Society studies degree holder said Covid-19 pandemic has given him time to reflect, discover and understand himself especially on the talents he possesses.

“I am now writing dramas for online and I am even considering adopting my books into local dramas. During all the lockdowns, I have been busy discovering myself.

“I attend City of Truth Church and I am happy that it has been growing well under the guidance of our pastor Aldridge Marufu who is also my teacher and my father in the Lord.”

“I started doing business selling earphones. I learned so much about business in university and when I finished I registered my company Reality Publishers which has been publishing my books. There will never be a day you will hear me complaining about Covid-19 pandemic affecting me because it is a moment of growth for me. I am an actor and a comedian and it has been one side people are yet to see,” he explained.

Nyamayaro said his rural settings also played a part in inspiring him to write.

“I come from Mutoko. I used to read Shona novels such as ‘Tambaoga’, ‘Rovambira’ and they left me wanting to share my old stories.

I used to visualise and write stories although they never saw the light of the day. I was later motivated and inspired to start my writing journey. I went through a lot but I healed through writing about it.

All the nine books I have written so far are Holy Spirit Inspired and they carry the presence of the Lord to help people,” he said.

Some of the books he has written include, “Kelvin Must Wait”, “Citizens of Block 57”, “Come out Talk” and “Feque atento” among others.
