Beitbridge Senator Tambudzani Mohadi has called on the new Zanu-PF Government and development agencies to channel more resources towards livestock production and ranching projects in Matabeleland South. She said these were the backbone of the province’s economic activities and people’s source of livelihood.

In an interview yesterday Sen Mohadi said Government needed to urgently come up with a blue print that seeks to mobilise funds for those farmers involved in animal husbandry.

She said most areas in the Matabeleland region were drought prone and formed the bulk producer of beef and others species of livestock hence the need for proper management systems that would result in the farmers producing enough for themselves and the country as a whole.

“We are appealing to the new Government to support livestock producers especially in this part of the country where cattle rearing, game ranching and irrigation farming are the sources of livelihood.

“These farmers need to be assisted with equipment to harvest stock feeds, vaccines and the requisite training and skills to run ranching and cattle ranching businesses. Development comes through innovative minds. We can not starve yet we have other resources to exploit in our region,” she said.
