Three MDC-T members appeared in court yesterday for allegedly assaulting their fellow party supporters over political misunderstandings during the party’s council primaries held this past weekend.

John Katiyo and Girisoti Mandere appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Edwin Marecha charged with assault.

They pair was granted $100 bail and remanded to June 6.

Prosecuting, Ms Linda Gadzikwa alleged that on May 20 at around 4pm, Katiyo and Mandere were conducting MDC-T primary elections for councillors at Fundo Primary School in Kuwadzana Phase 3, Harare.

The complainant is said to have approached Mandere and asked him to allow one Mhashu to enter into the polling station where the elections were being conducted.

Katiyo allegedly refused and grabbed the complainant by the collar and pushed him away.

Upon seeing Katiyo and the complainant engaging in a scuffle, Mandere allegedly joined in the fight and they both pushed the complainant out of the classroom.

In a related matter, another MDC-T member, Gift Chihambakwe appeared before the same magistrate charged with assault.

He was granted $100 bail and remanded to June 6.

The complainants in the case are Ronald Manjera and Didymus Makochekanwa.

The state alleges that Chihambakwe assaulted both Manjera and Makochekwa over a political misunderstanding.

Chihambakwe and the two complainants are said to have been conducting primaries at Fundo Primary School in Kuwadzana Phase 3, Harare.
