Zanu-PF candidate for Ward 41, Harare, in this year’s harmonised elections Cde Blessing Chimangah has pledged to help restore the capital’s Sunshine City status in the wake of deteriorating service delivery at the hands of the MDC-T-led council.

The revolutionary party has fielded candidates in all the 46 wards in Harare, setting the stage for a battle with opposition parties and independent candidates.

MDC-Alliance, a loose coalition of opposition parties led by Mr Nelson Chamisa, is going into the July 30 harmonised elections with morale at its rock bottom owing to the imposition of candidates.

Addressing a meeting of residents aimed at unveiling a Garden Club at Flame Lilly Old People’s Home in Marlborough at the weekend, Cde Chimangah said there was need to restore Harare to its Sunshine City status after it had been weighed down by MDC-T-led councils over the years.

“It is now high time to restore Harare to its olden days and in particular Marlborough here in Ward 41,” said Cde Chimangah.

“We are paying rates and for utility charges like electricity and water and we should get services like garbage collection, clean water, sewer reticulation and electricity.

“We should demand these services. City fathers will not be doing us a favour by providing those services. The same with me, you should demand those services once I am voted into office.”

Cde Chimangah said service delivery in the capital could only improve if people voted the revolutionary party led by President Mnangagwa who had performed wonders in the six months he has been in office by unlocking investment opportunities for the country.

Chairperson of the Garden Club, Ms Lorna Walker said they conceived the idea as part of deliberate measures to improve their area.

“The idea we have is to improve Marlborough so that it looks good, just as it used to be in the olden years,” she said.

“We are looking at the improvement of people’s gardens and there would be prizes for those with the best garden.”

Ms Walker said there would be a running competition and prizes would be won. She said the objective of the club was to improve the environment in terms of cleanliness.
