Security services will rally the nation for purposes of upholding and preserving peace and national security for the attainment of economic prosperity, Commander Zimbabwe National Army, Lieutenant-General David Sigauke, has said.

He said this while addressing participants in the top services marksmanship competition and meeting held recently.

The Commander Zimbabwe National Army Skill-At-Arms Meeting is a major and permanent feature on the annual shooting calendar in the country and draws participants from the ZNA, Air Force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service, President’s Department, War Veterans and selected civilian clubs.

This year, the shoot was conducted under the theme, “Sharpening Marksmanship Skills in Defence of National Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity for Sustainable Socio Economic Development’’.

Lt-Gen Sigauke said the security services were together with the masses in the realisation and appreciation of national developmental aspirations towards nation building.

“This gives us the opportunity to come together, appreciate and understand our national aspiration as a people of diverse backgrounds but with a common objective of nation building as we share various experiences through this sporting exposition,” he said.

“Let me stress that the interactive platform between the uniformed forces and the civilian clubs also help to foster a sense of discipline, mutual understanding, unity of purpose and a common call towards defending our territorial integrity, sovereignty and national interests,” he said.

It was important to note that the meeting promoted the art of weapon handling, safety procedures and shooting accuracy in addition to refining these musketry skills among the security services.

The participation of women in this competition, resonated well with the ideals of the Second Republic of giving equal opportunities to all Zimbabweans in pursuit of business or sporting activities in a free and peaceful environment.

Elsewhere, 52 AFZ officers last week graduated in Officers Management course and Basic Suppliers course at School of Academic Staff Training in Manyame Air Force Base.

Officiating during the graduation, AFZ Chief of Staff Supporting Services, Air Vice Marshal Jacob Nzvede, said the AFZ will continue to invest resources in manpower training to better an AFZ that is responsive to contemporary threats.

“A trained force has become the most important resource of any organisation, let me therefore hasten to point out that our training policy reposes on building a robust human resource base that is capable of effectively identifying and preparing appropriate individuals with specialised skill sets.”

“The acquisition of knowledge and skills required to realise stated goals is a process which organisations should continue to revere.”
