An  armed robber, who was part of a gang that was terrorising residents in Marondera, has been jailed to an effective 25 years.

Blessing Kuzvinzwa Nyika (30) appeared before regional magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa on four counts of armed robbery and pleaded guilty to three counts.

Mr Tsikwa initially sentenced Nyika to 28 years in jail before setting aside three years on condition of good behaviour.

Ms Memory Mandudzo, who represented the State, told the court that on February 15, at around 6pm, Nyika and his four accomplices, who are still at large, went to Ndirande Farm in Goromonzi where he was formerly employed as a general worker.

They forced their way into Jacqueline Pratt’s kitchen and ordered her and her four workers to lie down, while assaulting them with logs.

They tied the complainants with cables and ransacked the house.

They stole a Bernadelli Pistol loaded with 20 rounds, US$270, RTGS $1 270, Tab E cellphones and Mercedes Benz ML car keys.

Nyika and his accomplices then bundled the complainants into the Mercedes Benz and drove to the residence of Pratt’s daughter-in-law on the same farm.

The gang also stole property and cash there using the pistol to intimidate the occupants and dumped the Mercedes Benz before stealing a Nissan X-trail.

The total value of the stolen property was pegged at $10 040 and only $8 150 worth of goods were recovered.

On the second count, during the same night and using the stolen Nissan X-trail, Nyika and his accomplices, now wearing masks, proceeded to businessman Gift Phillip’s residence in Marondera.

They broke the bedroom window and pointed the stolen piston at Phillip and his wife, while others broke down the kitchen door to gain entry.

While inside the house, Nyika and his accomplices demanded cash, while threatening to rape Phillip’s wife.

They ransacked the house and stole US$200, RTGS$800 and some valuables. Only goods worth $250 were recovered.

During the same night and using the Nissan X-trail, the gang executed another armed robbery in Ruvimbo Park, Marondera, where they stole cash and some valuables before speeding off.
