Preparations for the Anti-Sanctions Day, which will be commemorated on October 25 are at an advanced stage, with several youths in Harare starting to make banners and flyers for the day.

The Herald managed to speak to some of the people making these banners.

Some of them were inscribed: “Africa Says no to sanctions”, “Free Up Zimbabwe; break the chains”, “free up Africa, Remove Sanctions against Zimbabwe”, among other messages denouncing the sanctions.

They were being made by a local organisation called Zimbabweans Independent Youths Organisation (ZIYO) led by Mr Posan Chitendere who is the chairman.

“We have come up with ideas for every citizen to join the march against economic restrictions imposed on our beloved country, Zimbabwe as one team,” he said.

He urged youths to come out in numbers during this day.

President Mnangagwa on Wednesday commended the country’s citizens for resisting machinations by the country’s detractors to effect regime change through the use of illegal economic sanctions imposed to alienate the people from Zanu PF by the United States and is allies.
The President told the Zanu PF Politburo that sanctions should be immediately removed as they are illegal, unjustified, and counter-productive.

The call comes after President Mnangagwa this week met with the United Nations special rapporteur, Ms Alena Douhan, who is in the country to assess the impact of unilateral coercive measures on enjoyment of human rights.
