Traditional leaders here have hailed the anti-corruption crusade being spearheaded by President Mnangagwa’s administration, hailing it as a milestone towards the restoration of sanity.

They also applauded the move by the revolutionary party’s youth league which recently embarked on a programme to unearth bad apples within Zanu-PF and the Government, saying this showed determination to fight graft.

Masvingo provincial chiefs’ council chair, Chief Chitanga (Mr Felani Chauke) yesterday said the Zanu-PF Youth League deserved to be singled out for leading the fight against graft.

“By taking a lead in the fight against corruption, the youths have demonstrated their commitment in building a viable economy,” he said.

“Many people have, over the years, been offering lip-service to the fight against corruption, never openly produced a list of corrupt elements in the system of governance.

“As traditional leaders, we highly expect the Government to protect them from disgruntled individuals whom they will have fingered in the rot.”

Other chiefs echoed similar sentiments.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is currently leading the crusade to eradicate the cancer of corruption, amid reports that it is seized with more than 200 cases graft.

ZACC has so far arrested Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Prisca Mupfumira in connection with the rot at the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).

“The fact that they arrest top party and Government officials, irrespective of their race, colour, creed, tribe or political affiliation is a welcome development,’’ said Chief Chitanga.

The anti-graft body recently got new teeth after getting arresting powers vowing to leave no stone unturned in the war against corruption.
