Mzansi Magic has added the first fully South African movie channel to its offering on DStv, with the launch of Mzansi Bioskop. Now on DStv Channel 164, this new channel brings a wide range of movie magic to a broad audience throughout Southern Africa and is accessible on the DStv Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus and Premium bouquets.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said the channel featured films that “reflect our lives, how we live and who we are as Africans, with stories that give meaning to who we are.”

“It will showcase the phenomenal talent in South Africa and the enormous contribution this is making to the success of the emerging film industry on the continent.”

Mzansi Bioskop shows films that reflect the day-to-day reality of the people of Mzansi.  Many of these feature films have been hot hits in bustling make-shift “bioscopes” in townships and others were made especially for the Mzansi Magic audience.

“This is a milestone development for film-making in general as a 24/7 original movie channel born out of viewers’ love of the Lokshin Bioskop films already on DStv and testimony to a commitment to boost the local movie industry,” said Ms Dziva.

“It will also inspire new talent all over Africa to tell their stories. We are told that audiences will soon be able to enjoy at least 150 brand-new films under the Mzansi Bioskop banner.”

Viewers across Africa, including Zimbabwe, can look forward to fascinating stories such as “Who Made Me Pregnant”; “2020 Orlando East”; “Blame It on Love”; “The Khumalos” and other films that have delighted audiences in South Africa recently. – DStv.
