LUANDA. — Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos yesterday called for multi-disciplinary measures to resolve problems that have been destabilising the Democratic Republic of Congo and voiced opposition to any groups to destabilise a democratically elected government in the neighbouring country. In an opening speech at a mini summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, President Eduardo dos Santos said the summit was intended to analyse the prevailing situation in the DRC, concerning the actions carried out by rebel troops opposing the democratically elected government.
The Angolan leader, who holds the acting presidency of the international conference, stressed that it cannot be tolerated that any groups destabilise a democratically elected government and peace and security in the Great Lakes region where urgent issues and foreign territories must not be used for hostile actions, given the good-neighbourly relations between countries in the region .
The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region is an inter-governmental organisation of the countries in the African Great Lakes Region to promote political stability through the promotion of sustainable peace and development. — Xinhua.
