Mall Route Group (MRG) yesterday donated an ambulance to Angel of Hope Foundation to complement First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa’s countrywide charity work. Presenting the ambulance to the First Lady at Zimbabwe House, MRG chief executive Mr Nathan Madzvanya said they acknowledged her approach when addressing social problems.

The First Lady launched Angel of Hope Foundation in February to uplift lives of disadvantaged children and other vulnerable members of society.

In her remarks, the First Lady, who is the patron of the foundation, said it was everyone’s responsibility to care for vulnerable groups.

“Firstly, I would like to thank God because he is the one who has driven them (MRG) to come here and bring such a magnitude present to Angel of Hope foundation,” she said.

“The ambulance is not going to be partisan, I am here to serve everyone. I am a mother and I don’t choose, a mother does not select her children. Whatever I do, I do it for the whole nation. With this present, you have brought relief to the foundation, it is not for a particular community, but the whole country will benefit.

“The ambulance will save lives because before a person is rushed to the hospital, he/she would get medical assistance in the ambulance. It is the initial stage of saving one’s life. Ambulance inogamha hupenyu husati hwayenda.”
She said the foundation cannot achieve much in isolation, but can do more through partnerships.

“The progress of the foundation is through support I am receiving from various well-wishers and partners who are stretching a helping hand and I am really appreciative of that,” she said.

“On behalf of Angel of Hope, I thank you so much MRG, I was not going to make it alone and the foundation cannot achieve much in isolation, but can do more through partnerships with other stakeholders. This donation is a clear indication of how as Zimbabweans we can join hands for a common good of the nation.

“The foundation will go a long way in achieving its objectives through such support. It is everyone’s responsibility to care for the disadvantaged. Together united we will achieve our goals.”

The First Lady urged corporates, development partners, communities and individuals to come together for the betterment of the country.

Mr Madzvanya said MRG has been following the First Lady’s programmes and projects and were touched when they saw her in the forefront of various initiatives which are for the good of the country.

“Amai as a champion and ambassador for women and child health, we heard of how she handed over a maternity ward she refurbished through her charity organisation to Harare Central Hospital, how she has been donating assortments of goods to the country’s hospitals, caring for the less-privileged just to mention a few.

“We have seen her spearheading cancer awareness campaigns and we acknowledge what the First Lady is doing in terms of getting people screened at early stages.

“We were touched when we saw Amai fighting cholera in some of the hotspots of the cholera outbreak in Harare. We saw her doing house chores in Budiriro promoting cleanliness to avoid the spread of cholera and cleared heaps of garbage in Glen View.

“We are supportive of her visions and we want to make sure that we also contribute to the community as a company through Angel of Hope. I hope our donation will go a long way in helping the nation at large.”
MRG offers a wide range of engineering services and mining equipment among others.
