LIVERPOOL. – Alisson has become the most expensive goalkeeper in history after Liverpool paid Roma £65million to land Brazil’s No. 1.

This is a huge statement of intent from Liverpool and takes their spending for this window to £174.45million on the back of deals for Guinea midfielder Naby Keita, Brazil international Fabinho and Switzerland forward Xherdan Shaqiri.

Alisson arrived on Merseyside on Wednesday and underwent a medical at Liverpool’s Melwood training base.

He signed a six-year deal before heading back on a private jet to Italy to conclude the remainder of his holiday.

Liverpool first asked Roma about Alisson in January but were initially quoted a fee of £90million.

They moved swiftly for the 25-year-old at the beginning of this week when Chelsea – their main rivals for his signature – were trying to sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid.

Upon putting pen to paper, the Brazil international told the Liverpool website: ‘I’m really happy, it’s a dream come true to wear such a prestigious shirt for a club of this size that is used to always winning.

“In terms of my life and my career, it’s a huge step for me being part of this club and this family. You can be certain that I’ll give my all.”

He admits playing at Anfield in April, where a rampant home side put five past him in an astonishing display, helped make up his mind.

“Yes, in part it did influence the decision,” Alisson added.

“When you make an important decision like this it’s not just a decision to change clubs, it practically changes your entire life, my family’s life, my wife, my daughter.

“That game definitely did have an influence but I also watched other games. I’ve seen other games where I could see the way Klopp had the team playing. That has made me really excited to be part of this group.”

Jurgen Klopp is delighted to get his man, telling the club website: “At one point in the last few weeks it came up, the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best goalkeepers – then it’s not a long thought, to be honest, it’s only that you need to have a little talk with the owners! They were quite excited, so we did it.

“I think it’s something we have to do. He has nothing to do with the price, we have nothing to do with the price, it’s the market, that’s how it is and we will not think a lot about it.’’ – Mailonline.
