Zimbabwe’s first technology magazine officially goes live next Friday.
After nine months of pilot testing the website, the founder and editor-in-chief of TechnoMag, Tonderai Rutsito, announced that all preparations were progressing smoothly as we finalise the official launch.
“We are glad to have TelOne, Telecel and Africom as our sponsors as we launch the online version of our technology magazine.
“We are also still getting serious partnership deals with other players and among those on board already are Gtel, Umax, Qrent, Zimpost, Zimhosts, Deepleague and Switch internet café.”

The TechnoMag founder said he was humbled by the response they got so far as it was very difficult for start- ups in Zimbabwe to get attention as well as financial support to venture into any new project.

Our launch day shall be a full day of excitement at Holiday Inn as we open doors at 8am as an exhibition centre for all technologically related players who are going to be exhibiting their products and services till 6pm. We have also invited most universities and colleges from Harare and around as we seek to expose them to the real world set-up.

There will be a career guidance session for students led by various industry experts, powered by unlimited all day free internet access for all plus a virtual internet café for those without personal devices.

Former Minister of ICT Nelson Chamisa and the recently appointed Minister of Environment, Water and Climate Saviour Kasukuwere will be the guests of honour. Editors from print media houses, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists and the Computer Society of Zimbabwe will also speak at the event.

The official launch will begin at 6pm after the exhibition and career guidance session for students.
TechnoMag has proved to be Zimbabwe’s fastest growing website and most sought after technology hub as it has attracted more than 10 000 followers in less than a year since inception, with all efforts outside the official launch.

“We initially went live on December 7, 2012, the same night I was awarded the ICT Reporter of the Year runner-up award under the then Ministry of ICT and today as we look back at the journey we know the time is now ripe to officially unveil technology to the Zimbabwean community.

“TechnoMag has managed to attract a record of more than 10 000 fans following them on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube with regular technology news, opinion and analyses, hackers’ guide, data and network security, tips and tricks, do it yourself guides, technology jobs and technology jokes among other sub-topics,” said Rutsito.

TechnoMag also becomes Zimbabwe’s fist technology website blending full video interviews as a form of digital news and today under their YouTube channel, they already have more than 20 serious video interviews with executives from technology giants in Zimbabwe attracting substantial views and hits.

Amongst the YouTube-based video interviews on their website, TechnoMag has already captured the directors of Telecel Zimbabwe, Liquid Telecoms, Zol, Africom, TelOne, Gtel and Zimhosts among the prominent technology companies in Zimbabwe.

Instead of using the conventional text-based articles, they are bringing life to their website with videos, audios and live tweets embedded across their platforms.

Today TechnoMag is having an average of 2 000 unique visitors daily plus 900 000 monthly hits, all attained in less than one year since its inception.

On launch day we will be unveiling a fresh new look website targeted to Zimbabweans, regional and international readers of 18+ years
The small TechnoMag team is comprised of six members with management, editorial and the technical staff as young entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe join hands to break new ground in real sustainable enterprise to add value towards the growth of Zimbabwe’s economy. TechnoMag, however, has attracted industry experts who are already writing under the |Tech Experts Speak” column to share their expertise as well as air their opinions to the readers.
