Ali Halimeh remembered

First Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, the late Ali Halimeh, has been remembered as one of the most important pillars of Palestinian diplomatic and progressive work on the African continent.

The former ambassador, who died nine years ago, worked from 1983 to 2001 and was the longest serving Ambassador of Palestine in Zimbabwe.

He is credited for playing an important role in establishing and strengthening Palestinian relations with Zimbabwe, with all its political, cultural, party and social elites, and was respected by all Zimbabweans.

In a statement yesterday, the Palestinian Embassy in Zimbabwe said Ambassador Halimeh was an extraordinary ambassador, who struggled with his companions in African liberation movements, to ensure their freedom and independence.

“The Palestine Liberation Organisation’s support to all African comrades and fighters, has brought many African capitals to exchange messages of mutual solidarity between the Palestinian people and the African peoples,” said the Palestine Embassy.
