Algeria’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mahamed Seoudi on Tuesday hosted celebrations to mark his country’s 70th anniversary of Algeria’s Glory Liberation Revolution at his residence.

The celebrations were meant to commemorate the beginning of Algeria’s eight-year fight against French colonialism which began on November 1, 1954, until July 5, 1962, when it attained its independence.

In his remarks, Ambassador Seoudi said his country believes in people’s right to self-determination.

“Since gaining independence, Algeria has adopted the principles of brotherhood, defending the right of people to self-determination, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, and respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Algeria has been actively contributing to the maintenance of international peace and security at regional, continental and international levels.

“We have successfully mediated in many cases in response to requests made to us by some friendly and neighbouring countries. From Mali to the American diplomat’s hostages in Iran and to the conflict between Iraq and Iran.”
