The Murehwa North farming community is set to benefit from the establishment of a one-stop agricultural hub to be set up at Murehwa Centre by year end.

The shop is set to assist thousands of farmers in the area to sell their products and produce under one roof.

Once completed, the hub is set to create employment and economically empower the farming community.

Zanu-PF candidate for Murehwa North Cde Daniel Garwe said ground work for the establishment of the hub was almost complete.

“We are in engagement with other stakeholders for the success of the project,” he said.

“We have teams moving around the districts registering all interested farmers.

“Once we are done with that phase, we look at each farmers needs and see how we can fund them to boost their operations.

“Our objective is for all farmers to bring their produce to Murehwa terminus where we are setting up the agricultural hub.

“Buyers from across the country who want farm produce will then come to the hub.”

The agricultural hub initiative will be buttressed by a £3,7 million purse availed by the European Union. In Mashonaland East Province, Murehwa and Mutoko rural district councils will soon get funds to form local economic development committees. Cde Garwe said in the short term, the project will target horticulture and poultry farmers.

“Every farmer is set to come and trade under one roof. Our aim is to create more of a Mbare Musika set up in the province,” he said.

“We can generate our own income reserves for the province through the programme. All we need is to be an organised community and we can have the hub up and running in no time. We have the land, labour, government inputs, markets and investors.”
