African diplomats are solidly behind Zimbabwe in its fight against illegal sanctions that have been existence for close to two decades.

This was said by the Dean of the Africans Diplomatic Corps and DRC Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mwawapanga Mwana Nanga in a wide ranging interview yesterday with The Herald on the Sadc Solidarity Day against sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

The Sadc Summit of Heads of State and Government recently held in Tanzania declared October 25, 2019, as the day the region will speak against the illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe through various activities.

“The first thing people of Zimbabwe should understand is that Zimbabwe is not alone no matter what they throw at you the world should know that your brothers, your sisters in the region and all over the world are with you,” he said.

“Keep in mind that back in 1998 when DRC was attacked by countries fronting the Western former colonial powers, Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia came to our rescue because the objective of that attack was to break the DRC like they have broken Sudan into two countries, but it did not happen because our brothers and sisters came to our rescue.

“So the people of Zimbabwe have to understand also that their brothers in the region stand by them.”

Ambassador Mwana Nanga said as African diplomats they were in support of Sadc’s declaration as unilateral sanctions had no place in the modern world.

“We as African ambassadors, as Sadc and as brothers in the region we do support that decision by our principals not because of what people think that we just fall in line, but to tell you the truth these sanctions are a reality,” he said.

“They have no place when we are talking about this new world of globalisation.

“It’s a multi-polar world nobody should be allowed to impose sanctions on any other country.

“Now if these sanctions were not working really and remind you these sanctions don’t just hurt Zimbabweans they hurt all of us.”
