SEVEN armed robbers suspected of stealing cash, mobile phones and vehicles in Harare and Karoi, have been arrested in a pair of raids as police score more successes against criminal gangs.

In Harare, four alleged robbers — Witness Nyarupa alias Marori (40), Ronald Munyaradzi Nyangaire (41), Checksmore Godza (30) and Rutendo Rose Saithi (20) were recently arrested.

They were linked to armed robbery cases which occurred in the capital between September 8 and November 29 this year.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the four, together with seven others who are still at large, would attack home-owners while armed with pistols before tying the occupants with shoe laces, ropes or electric cables.

The suspects are linked to three counts of armed robbery that occurred in Kuwadzana Extension, Eastlea and Unit J in Chitungwiza where they stole property ranging from television sets, decoders, cellphones, groceries and two vehicles — a Honda CRV and a Nissan Silphy — all worth US$31 500.”

Police have since recovered the two stolen cars, three blankets, two cellphones and a television set from the suspects.

Asst Comm Nyathi said comprehensive investigations to see if the same gang was responsible for other robberies are now underway. Police arrested Christopher Zimbera (32), Ronald Kambe (22) and Bright Kambe (25), for a robbery in Karoi last Wednesday.

The three suspects, who were travelling in a Nissan Caravan (AFC 5352), allegedly picked up the complainant who was destined for Karoi at Chidzuwi Turn-off before robbing him of a satchel containing US$700, $2 000 and an Itel P36 cellphone.

Police recovered the complainant’s identity card from one of the suspects.
