A total of 553 policemen and women this Wednesday graduated from the Police Staff College after undertaking various programmes.

The graduates received University of Zimbabwe Diplomas in Law, Business Enterprise Development in Policing; and Community Education and Lifelong Learning.

Additionally, 365 graduates also received Certificates in Training Methods; Law and Policing; Traffic Management; Staff Administration; and Sign Language.

The event was attended by Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister Ambassador Fredrick Shava, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, senior police and government officials.

In his address, Ambassador Shava said, “It is an honour and privilege to address you all at this significant occasion, as we gather to witness the 41st graduation ceremony of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Staff College.

“Allow me to begin by commending the Zimbabwe Republic Police for maintaining peace and security in our various communities so that our people go about their activities without any fear of crime.

“In the recent past, we saw how the ZRP seamlessly maintained peace before, during, and after the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government. Even so, we always observe with pride, the exploits of our men and women in blue, as they render selfless services to war-torn and destabilised parts of the world.

“Indeed, the high level of professionalism resident within the ZRP can only be a testament to the effectiveness of the organization’s training and human resource development initiatives, including programmes delivered by the Police Staff College.”

He said that the Government needs to see improved police services for their people as a direct result of enhanced skills and knowledge from training institutions.

“It is pleasing to note that the 41st graduation ceremony, has 553 graduands composed of 337 males and 216 females,” he said.

“I noticed a slight increase in female participants from 209 last year to 216 this year. Overall 37 percent women participation is a positive achievement, which indicates that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is striving to foster gender equity within its rank and file in line with our National

Development Strategy 1 and global standards and expectations.

“I therefore wish to encourage the Commissioner General of Police to enroll more female police officers to take up courses in the future.”
