A total of 15 coaches are undergoing a World Athletics (WA) Level Two throws coaching course at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
The course is being conducted by Joel Severe from Mauritius who is a Certified World Athletics Level Two throws lecturer.
The course will conclude on Thursday.
National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) administrator Manuel Mpofu says the course is vital in the country’s bid to improve in field events.
“The idea is to have our coaches equipped with latest coaching methods. Morden day coaching is now more on the scientific aspect and our coaches must be skilled in that regard,” said Mpofu.
The course is designed to be an introduction to performance coaching for coaches who have done well at level one and have gained a level of coaching specialisation in one of the following five event groups: sprints and hurdles, middle/long distance running, race walks, jumps, throws and combined events.
With this specialisation they can begin to meet their country’s needs for high level coaches. On completion of a Level Two course, a coach will be expected to be able to identify and coach the basic competition model for each event.
The coach will also be expected to be able to plan and implement a series of appropriate micro cycles and their respective training sessions within the context of an annual training plan.
