CAPS United skipper Hardlife Zvirekwi believes the way they are playing during the pre-season may signal the beginning of a new era when the season gets underway. Zvirekwi was confident that CAPS United could complete a double over bitter rivals when the two giants clash in the Bob 91 Super Cup final at Rufaro on Sunday. The old enemies first met a fortnight ago in the Sino-Zim Challenge Cup with CAPS United prevailing after the penalty shoot-out lottery.

Last Sunday, CAPS United were at Barbourfields for the Bob 91 Super Cup elimination tie which they won 2-1.

Zvirekwi says all this is not a fluke.

“It is the beginning of a new era. So maybe this is it and things could work for us this season.

“These matches are the stepping stone and a spring board which will help us with lifting our morale and believe that we can win the league,” he said.

Since he was given the arm band Zvirekwi is also “a born again player” and the defender appears different man from the one who wanted to walk out on CAPS United in frustration just two months ago.

There is renewed zeal and strength in the Warriors midfielder who together with David Chipala and Ronald Pfumbidzayi wanted out.

But for Zvirekwi all that is now water under the bridge and the player is bubbling with confidence.

“We go to every match with an attitude of winning no matter whom we are playing. We have to guard against complacency if we want to win the game,” said Zvirekwi.

The former Gunners defender said after three weeks with new coach Mark Harrison they were enjoying their game.

“The experience is interesting. We have been learning a lot of things and definitely there is now a great change in the team. I believe the club will perform well,” he said.

CAPS United had a busy weekend where all of their players enjoyed some game time as their reserve side was also in action in Malawi.

However, the team which was captained by Gerald Phiri had to settle for second best in the Zambezi Cup which they played on Wednesday afternoon against Big Bullets following their 1-2 defeat.

The side that travelled to Malawi was under the guidance of assistant coaches Brenna Msiska and Fundai Kwashi and are expected back home today.

The team had the likes of Itai Chiwara, Charles Mutero, Tinotenda Muskwe, Ishmael Thindwa, George Nyirenda, Carlos Messi and Pervington Zimunya.

Coach Mark Harrison said he was happy that all the his players got game time during the weekend.

He said while he is still looking at players in some positions there are not going to be much changes to the team which has featured in the past two games.

Harrison said he was not going to consider the players who travelled to Malawi and would give them a rest.

The English coach said he was enjoying a clean bill of health going into the Harare derby again.

Harrison reckons that it would be a tough match on Sunday as their opponents would have done their homework since they met.

“Another tough encounter on Sunday.

“It would be interesting to see how Dynamos are shaping up as well now as they had another two weeks since we played them.

“I am sure they have improved and it is going to be a tough game,” Harrison said.
