IMPRESSIVE Zimbabwe international right back Hardlife Zvirekwi says the Warriors are targeting their final Group B match against Burkina Faso tonight to turn the corner on their goal scoring drought at this CHAN finals. Ian Gorowa’s men, despite having created a number of chances, are yet to celebrate a goal at the third edition of CHAN but can still go through without scoring or conceding a goal provided leaders Uganda beat Morocco in the other group B match to be played concurrently.

Zvirekwi, who has put up an inspired display so far from the right back position, says the current goal drought is normal in football and believes the match against the Stallions tonight can be the beginning of happier times.

“The current drought is part and parcel of football and its normal, but we will surely score.
“The obvious thing is the phase will pass and tomorrow (today) we might end up scoring many goals that will have people surprised as to whether we are the same team that has all this while been firing blanks.

“We have watched them (Burkina Faso) play and there is no doubt that they are a very good team and no wonder why there are still in the running for a place in the knockout stages,” he said.

The Warriors find themselves in unpleasant territory together with Ethiopia as the only two sides yet to score a goal, so far, among the 16 finalists competing here.

But crucially for them, they have put up a solid defensive display for gangling goalkeeper George Chigova in which captain Partson Jaure has shone.

And so has Zvirekwi, who on numerous occasions has ventured up front with style only to be let down by the misfiring strikers.
Zvirekwi is aware the Warriors cannot afford to falter today if they entertain hopes of progressing to their debut knockout stages of a continental tournament.

“We are aware, our brief is very simple, just win tomorrow and we are through. We know the level of expectation back home and the good thing is we have our destiny in our own hands, so we promise to do nothing short of our best,” said Zvirekwi.

It remains to be seen if Gorowa will stick with his misfiring strike force led by Simba Sithole of Dynamos or will call on the services of the striker’s namesake who plays for How Mine.

The How Mine striker has been full of life at training and, although not as lethal and precise, looks sharper than his colleagues who have been very disappointing in the first two assignments against the big Moroccans and surprise package Uganda.
