PREMIERSHIP giants Dynamos look set to land Zimbabwe international Lincoln Zvasiya on a loan deal amid revelations that the former Aces Youth Academy man will not be returning to Greece following the expiry of his  short spell in Europe. Zvasiya is still contracted to Absa Premiership kings Kaizer Chiefs, who had loaned him out to OFI Crete last year. He is now back in Africa and with Amakhosi having exhausted their foreign quota, it emerged that the Soweto giants are looking to loan him out once again.

The Herald understands that Dynamos are lining up an ambitious bid to secure the defender’s services on a loan deal and boost their depth.
DeMbare will be chasing glory on both the domestic and continental fronts and have been battling to sign more experienced players.

Although neither Dynamos nor Zvasiya’s manager Gibson Mahachi were at liberty to discuss much about the deal, the latter confirmed that his player would no longer be staying in Greece. Mahachi even confirmed that Zvasiya could be on his way back home  — Zimbabwe.

“Zvasiya’s loan stint in Greece has expired and now his situation is tricky because Chiefs must decide what they want to do with the player since he still has a running contract with them,” said Mahachi.

“Definitely he is not going back to Greece. There might be a possibility he could be loaned to a Zimbabwean club but I am not sure which one. We should have a clearer picture tomorrow (today). That’s when we are expecting to get more details.”

Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha, however, denied the club has interests in the defender, arguing that they have a “bloated squad’’.

“We have heard about Zvasiya’s position but as a club we haven’t made any moves for him. Not as yet because we have more players in our squad, some of whom we don’t even know what to do with them. So we cannot go after other players in that case,” said Chikengezha.

With the South African Premiership transfer window now approaching the close, Kaizer Chiefs are yet to make a decision on the fate of the defender.

Kickoff yesterday reported that Chiefs are considering recalling Zvasiya to add depth to their squad as they aim to do well in their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.

Zvasiya was left out of Amakhosi’s 25-member squad for the Champions League submitted at the Caf offices at the close of the January 15 deadline. They can only make amends in August when the second window opens.

But the South African quota system makes it difficult to accommodate Zvasiya at the moment. Already, they have four Zimbabweans to feature in the Champions League as they have included midfielder Willard Katsande and the duo of forwards Kingston Nkhatha, Knowledge Musona as well as Zhaimu Jambo.

Chiefs have also signed Ugandan defender Ivan Bukenya, who is set to take part in the Champions League.
The club’s media officer Vina Maphosa told Kickoff that they are still to make a decision on Zvasiya.

“As a club we are still deciding on the matter and at this stage we cannot reveal anything to the media as this is an internal matter,” said Maphosa.

“But we are looking at the situation and considering our options.”
AmaKhosi coach Stuart Baxter has already indicated that the club intends to recall the Zimbabwean defender to beef his team up as they want a strong side in the African Safari.

Meanwhile, Dynamos drew 1-1 with Chapungu in a friendly match at Gwanzura yesterday. Patrick Khumbula was on target. DeMbare will now play Black Rhinos at Rimuka this Saturday and ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium the following day.

The Harare giants are using the friendly matches to warm up for the Champions League tournament which begins next week with a home date against Botswana’s Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
