Seven Harare schools scooped prizes for the best Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council Ordinary Level results last year at the 12th edition of the provincial merit awards ceremony held in Harare last Friday. ZRP High School won the first prize with a 95,76 percent pass rate, under the category with 101 to 200 candidates. On second place was Queen Elizabeth with a 75,68 percent pass rate, under the same category.

Cornelius Hope High School scooped the first prize with a 70,83 percent pass rate, under the category of schools with 1 to 100 candidates. It was followed by St Peter’s (Mbare) School with a 64,29 percent pass rate, under the same category.

Under the 201+ category, Highfield 1 High School, which scored a 67,89 percent pass rate, took the first prize while Roosevelt Girls High School grabbed the second prize at 63,56 percent.

The third best prize in the 201+ category was taken by Mabelreign Girls’ High School with a 62,5 percent pass rate. Students with the best O-Level results were also awarded prizes, which saw ZRP High School’s Chitsiko Njabulo, who scored 13 As and 1 B, walking away with an iPad, $50 cash and a G-Tel hamper.

Under the girls’ category, Glen View 1 High School’s Lisa Mirisau, and ZRP High School’s Zimunhu Tapiwanashe both with 12 As, were also given prizes. The ceremony also saw teachers being recognised for the best results. Harare High School history teacher Mr Learnmore Patsanza, walked away with a certificate, food hamper and $175.

Other teachers were also given awards including three from ZRP High School. The best O-Level Cambridge results award was scooped by Arundel Girls High School. It recorded a 100 percent pass rate followed by Hellenic Academy at 96,45 percent.

St John’s High School scooped the first prize at 92,31 percent pass rate in the A-Level Zimsec exams. On second place was Pinewood High School with 85,72 percent. Tynwald High School came third with a 75 percent pass rate.

Under the 51 to 100 candidates’ category for A-Level, Nyatsime College took the first prize after registering a 100 percent pass rate. The 101+ candidates’ category’s prize was scooped by Mufakose 1 High with a 99,2 percent pass rate, followed by Zengeza 1 High School with a 98,08 percent.

Under the Cambridge A-Level results, Dominican Convent scooped the first prize with a 100 percent pass rate.

Primary schools were also given awards with Borrowdale, Greystone Park, Alexandra, Hartman House, St John’s Preparatory School, Pathway, Lusitania, Eaglesvale, Harare Hellenic, Mother Patrick (Waterfalls), Sharon, Chisipite Junior, Mother Touch, Denmark Junior, Happy, The Grange, Christian, Northwood Adventist, Divaris Makharis, and Masaisai primary schools achieving a 100 percent pass rate.

In the farm schools category, Derbyshire Primary School took the first prize with an 85,4 percent pass rate. Kutsaga Primary School was second at 84 percent. Under special schools, St Giles School scooped the first prize with a 100 percent pass rate.

Jairos Jiri School came second at 81.3 percent. Glen View 9 Primary School took the first prize for the highest number of pupils who scored four units. This was after 46 pupils got four units.
