Zodwa Mutunzi

Jonathan Mbiriyamveka
POPULAR Harare socialite Zodwa Mutunzi is now off the market. The award-winning businesswoman, who previously denied dating Harare’s most eligible bachelor Genius Kadungure aka Ginimbi. recently took to her Facebook page bubbling about the developments in her love life.

“Yes, masteps soon,” she posted with a picture of the two flying business class. Some of her friends posted on her wall congratulating her. To show that she is indeed head over heels in love and taken she even replaced her profile photo with Genius’ picture looking all “blinged up”.

It appears the couple has been together for quite a long time and it is only now that Zodwa has decided to come into the open.
Zodwa confirmed that she was indeed dating Genius and so far it has been well.

“It’s true that I am in a serious relationship with him (Genius) and at this point let’s leave it at that,” she said.
The high-flying couple has been to overseas trips aboard first class on business, living it up like international celebrities. When it comes to spending, money is not an issue for the two who are renowned for throwing lavish parties in and outside Harare.

Only in 2010, Genius threw one of the most expensive bashes which seized Harare by the throat. A whopping US$17 000 was splashed at the all-white party which drew scores of people from Harare’s northern suburbs including the yuppies, baby mamas, baby daddies and what have you.

Guests were treated to high-end whisky, bright coloured cocktails, champagne as well as cigars at the birthday bash which was held at his Greystone Park home for three consecutive days.

And then last year, another extravagant party was held in Botswana where Genius together with his “hommies” flew to Gaborone and partied a storm with Motswana girls.

The classy party gobbled an estimated P250 000  (US$32 000) breaking his own record he set in Harare. Genius, who is believed to have popularised the phrase “Kuti zvityise” once said he let’s “the money do the work”.

As for Zodwa, her Facebook page is quite an eyeful as it is laden with pictures of some of her romantic and memorable moments. For someone with an interest in the travel and tourism business, Zodwa is a perfectionist and surely knows how to pamper herself.

She is the founder and managing director of one of Zimbabwe’s leading travel agencies, Traverse Travel (Pvt). Yes, she is a hard worker and this explains why she won the Best Travel Agent (runners-up) at the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Awards 2011 and in the same year she also won the Prestige Award from Swiss Airlines and the Top 10 Achiever Awards sponsored by British Airways.

But outside work, Zodwa has mentored a lot of young women in business including some of her friends who are known in different social circles. One can only imagine what sort of wedding dress, cake and ring that she will adorn on her wedding day. For someone who is no stranger to spending big, you can be assured nothing short of royalty.

And the guest list will read like a script from a Hollywood blockbuster. This is hardly surprising as she has rubbed shoulders with the movers and shakers of the industry. A devout member of Prophet Uebert Angel’s church — Spirit Embassy, Zodwa says she was also into charity.

“Traverze does a lot of social responsibility including paying school fees for underprivileged children. I have also grown spiritually and that means I no longer live my life the way I used to,” she said.

It is all very well to note that age is nothing but a number as Zodwa and Genius in their 30s have one thing in common, they both live life to the fullest, as the pictures on these two pages show.

While it is not yet clear how the two met, it is no longer important, the two will soon be walking down the aisle, amid glitz and glamour.
