WARREN Hills Golf Club will this morning host the first tournament of the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union season — the Mashonaland East and West Interprovincial tourney. About 40 players are expected to make the field. Last year the event was held at Ruwa Country Club and Batsirai Tilowakuti won the Championship Division individual prize.

Several top women golfers, who include Loice Chingono of Wingate, Tilowakuti of Borrowdale Brooke, Yolanda Mubaiwa and Shamiso Makwara, are likely to take part in the championship division.

Rodna Mutasa and Loveness Chandavengerwa could feature prominently in the A and B Divisions, respectively
The Mashonaland East and West tournament organisers, Connie Mashiri, the Warren Hills captain, and Priscilla Makurumure, said they were looking forward to a competitive event.

“We are looking forward to a very competitive 36-hole two-day-event at Warren Hills,” said the organisers.
“We cannot single out individuals but everyone will be looking forward to do well in the event.

“There are going to be four Divisions, namely the Championship Division and the A, B and C divisions.
“There are also junior players who are expected to take part and it is good for our development.

“We are expecting Margaret Nyamukondiwa, who may be the youngest in the field, and Danielle Bekker, who has been doing well in junior circuits.”

Meanwhile, Sheldon Steyn has managed to pull through to the last two rounds of the Sunshine Tour pre-qualifiers after shooting an impressive 66 yesterday.

The Garry Player graduate will now be hoping to continue with his good form after making it into the final 60.
The best 30 players will receive the 2014 Sunshine Tour cards.

Sheldon will join Ryan Cairns, who returned from United States yesterday, if gets the card.
