Caesar Zvayi

ZIMPAPERS Board Chairman Dr Charles Utete has announced senior editorial changes across all platforms as the printing and publishing group consolidates its status as an integrated media house. This comes in the wake of the launch of Star FM radio two years ago and in preparation for a transformation to digital platforms.

The appointments, which are with immediate effect, also come in the wake of a business restructuring exercise that has seen the purchasing of a new-state-of-the-art printing press to be commissioned in Harare soon, with plans underway to get another printing press for the Bulawayo branch.

Tumeliso Makhurane

Herald deputy editor Caesar Zvayi has been appointed editor of the flagship title and will be deputised by Mabasa Sasa who was editor of Southern Times, a joint venture partnership between Zimpapers and New Era of Namibia.

Changes have also been made at the Bulawayo Branch where Mduduzi Mathuthu; editor and founder of New Zimbabwe.com website, former Bulawayo bureau chief for the Daily News, editor and publisher of the New Zimbabwe print edition; has been appointed editor of the Chronicle, taking over from Itai Musengeyi.

Mathuthu holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from the University of Glamorgan, Wales; an Advanced Diploma in International Journalism, and a Certificate in Web Design, all from Thomson Foundation, Wales.

Herald senior assistant editor Tumeliso Makhurane has been appointed editor of The Sunday News, taking over from Paul Mambo who passed on in August.

Makhurane is an experienced journalist who rose through the ranks of the Chronicle where he was deputy editor and has acquitted himself well as a senior editorial manager.

He holds an MSc in Journalism and Media Studies from NUST, a BA in Media Studies from the Zimbabwe Open University, and a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Harare Polytechnic.

Mr Musengeyi

Musengeyi is set to take over from Sasa at the Southern Times.

He started his career as a senior reporter, having joined the Herald from Ziana. He rose through the ranks to the position of Assistant Editor of the Herald and Editor of the Chronicle.

He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from Harare Polytechnic, and is reading for a BA Degree in Media Studies with ZOU.

Zvayi is an experienced journalist who rose through the ranks at The Herald where he started off as a senior political reporter in November 2004, before rising to political and features editor, night editor, senior assistant editor and deputy editor, a position he held since July 2009.

Zvayi holds a BSc Degree in Biological Sciences and Geography from Bindura University of Science Education, Post-Graduate Diploma in Media and Communication Studies, and Master of Arts Degree in Communication and Media Studies all from the University of Zimbabwe.

Sasa brings on board invaluable experience having started has career at the Sunday Mirror before joining The Herald where he rose through the ranks as senior political reporter, political and features editor as well as news editor of The Herald before his appointment as editor of the Southern Times a position he held until his new posting. He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Harare Polytechnic.

Mabasa Sasa

Jorum Nyathi, immediate past spokesperson of Jomic and former deputy editor of the Zimbabwe Independent, has been appointed Group Political Editor and brings with him over 21years experience in the media having cut his teeth as a proof reader and sub-editor at the Financial Gazette between 1992 and 1996, before joining the Zimbabwe Independent as sub-editor in 1996 where he rose from sub-editor, chief sub-editor, assistant editor, managing editor to deputy editor before leaving Zimind for Jomic in July 2009 where he was till his appointment to the position of Zimpapers Group Political Editor. Nyathi holds a BA (General) Degree, and BA English (Honours) Degree all from the University of Zimbabwe.

As part of positioning the Group to deal with digital challenges that have seen more and more readers migrate to the digital platform, Innocent Gore, who was editor of The Herald, has been appointed Editor Digital Media where he is expected to spearhead the development of new products among them BH24, and Sport24.

Gore has vast experience of working in Harare, Windhoek, Namibia and Bulawayo. He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from Harare Polytechnic and is reading towards a BA Degree in Media Studies with the Zimbabwe Open University.

Munyaradzi Huni

Sunday Mail Deputy Editor Nomsa Nkala has been appointed to head the launch of new digital television platforms. Nkala is an experienced journalist with vast experience in coordinating coverage between the print and electronic platforms. She holds an MBA, and BBA Degrees from Witwatersrand University and MANCOSA University in South Africa, and a Diploma in Journalism with the Christian College of Southern Africa.

She is reading for a Special Honours Degree in Communication and Media Studies with the Zimbabwe Open University

Munyaradzi Huni, who was Sunday Mail Assistant Editor, takes over as Deputy Editor of the country’s biggest weekly newspaper. Huni is an experienced journalist, a long serving political editor at The Sunday Mail, who was instrumental in the weekly’s market dominance. He holds a Diploma in Journalism from the Christian College of Southern Africa.
