1300: Sadc has urged candidates to respect and accept the results saying whoever is aggrieved should not resort to violence but engage in dialogue. The head of the observer mission Mr Bernard Membe urged Zimbabweans to exercise restraint and patience while they wait for results.

1249: Sadc Observer Mission is currently holding a press conference and they have said the elections were peaceful and Zec conducted the elections in a transparent manner.

1211: The European Union today commended Zimbabweans for turning out  to vote in  large numbers and described the elections as peaceful.

In a statement issued by her spokesperson Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission said the EU recognised the importance of the elections for Zimbabwe and SADC.

“She commends the people of Zimbabwe for turning out in large numbers to cast their votes, in what were broadly peaceful elections. She calls upon on all parties to maintain calm and order as the results of the poll become known,” read the statement.

The High Representative thanked Sadc and the African Union for their efforts and encouraged them to continue supporting the process.

“The European Union is following events closely, in close consultation with SADC, the AU and other observers including civil society, in advance of the official results. It will await the assessment of SADC and the AU on the process and reported irregularities, as well as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s official announcement of the results, before announcing its own assessment,” concluded the statement.

0013: RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT: Constituencies that have been won by Zanu PF in the latest results are Mbare, Mazowe South, Mt Darwin South, Mrewa North, Goromonzi North, Mudzi North, Goromonzi West, Chikomba West, Chikomba Central, Chikomba East, Mrewa South, Mrewa West, Seke, Mudzi West, Uzumba, Maramba Pfungwe, Marondera Central, Chiredzi East, Gutu West, Gutu North, Masvingo Urban, Mwenezi West, Matobo North, Beitbridge, Gwanda Central, Gwanda South and Insiza South.

0002: RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT: Constituencies that have been won by the MDC-T in the latest results are Bulawayo South, Highfield East, Highfield West, Sunningdale, Southerton, St Marys and Chitungwiza North.

2353: RESULTS  ANNOUNCEMENT: In results that have just been announced, MDC-T has won 7 constituencies, while Zanu PF has won 28 constituencies. MDC-T now has a total of 10 seats while Zanu PF has 47 seat.

2200: RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT: Zanu PF candidates who were retained are Webster Shamu (Chegutu East) Sylvestor Nguni (Mhondoro Mubayira),  while former Ambassador and chairman of the Mineral Marketing  Corporation  of Zimbabwe Chris Mutsvangwa won the Norton constituency on a Zanu PF ticket.

2149:RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT: In Bikita West Constituency, Zimbabwe Newspapers board member Dr Munyaradzi Kereke won on a Zanu PF ticket. He polled 6 270  beating Elias Musakwa who was also representing Zanu PF and polled 6 052.

2143: RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT: Phillip Chiyangwa lost the Chinhoyi seat to Dr Peter Matarutse of MDC-T. Chiyangwa polled 8 561 against 9 863 polled by Dr Matarutse.

2131: RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT: Constituencies won by the MDC-T are Chinhoyi, Pelandaba-Mpopoma and Nkulumane.

2103: Results announced so far by ZEC vice-chairperson Mrs Joyce Kazembe shows that Zanu PF has won 19 constituencies while the MDC-T has won three constituencies .

1659: MDC-T aspiring candidate for Gokwe Nembudziya Kizito Mbiriza accepted defeat to Cde Justice Wadyajena of Zanu PF ahead of the official announcement of the election results by ZEC . He said is prepared to work with Zanu PF. Cde Wadyajena distributed Zanu PF regalia to the losing candidate and more than 30 MDC-T supporters who pledged to work with Zanu PF.

1638: Head of the African Union Observer Mission and former Nigerian president General Olusegun Obasanjo has reiterated that the harmonised election held yesterday was credible and its outcome is reflective of the wishes of the people of Zimbabwe.

General Obasanjo said this soon after meeting President Mugabe to bid him farewell at State House this afternoon.

“I have been able to witness an election that is free…yes there are incidences here and there but they are not incidences that will flaw the election to the point of not reflecting the will of the people of this country, so we wish all the people of this country all the best,” he said.

1313: “The ECF said there is no country that can claim to have a clean voters roll. Zimbabwe’s voters roll was not in the hands of ZEC and we are a peer support group and we are happy that ZEC will have the function of registering people on the voters roll. This election is credible even though there are issues.”

13:06 ECF-SADC commended ZEC for conducting the elections in a professional manner. The organisation described the elections as peaceful, credible and efficient. The ECF said the elections were conducted in conjunction with the SADC guidelines.

1302: Speaking now at a press briefing the Electoral Commission Forum-SADC Observer Mission chairperson said the mission noted the special efforts made by ZEC including quarantine of special votes to guide against any violations. ECF -SADC said it noted with concern the delay of the voters roll to be given to political parties. The mission said the campaign period was generally calm.

The mission was assured by ZEC but that no serving member of the armed forces was registered as a candidate for the polls. Most polling stations opened on time.

1230: MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has called the elections a “farce”.  Addressing the media at Harvest House a few minutes ago he claimed the elections, described as free and fair by the AU and SADC observer teams, as not meeting SADC guidelines. He said a Zanu PF victory will be a pirate victory alleging that there were manipulations and voter migration bussed to constituencies such as Harare’s Mt Pleasant.

He also claimed there was militarisation of ZEC and over printing of ballots as well abuse of postal voting system. Tsvangirai left the briefing without taking an questions and left immediately after addressing the presser.

1015: The Zimbabwe Election Support Network has convened a press briefing trying to issue an adverse report discrediting the election.  Zesn  chairman said they deployed over 7 000 observers and said the election’s credibility was compromised because it was biaised against urban voters who were denied the opportunity to register as voters.

1005: Presiding officers at polling stations in Bubi and Nkayi South constituencies are sending election results to their constituency command centres. The results for the local authorities will be displayed later today, while those for National Assembly will be announced after counting later today. The peaceful environment is still prevailing with voters patiently waiting for the results.

0946: Beitbridge East command centre has received results and ballot boxes from one ward while the Beitbridge West command centres has received for two wards. Most wards in Beitbridge Urban completed counting the votes around 6am. Over 7 500 voted in West at 7pm last night while 14 000 voted in in East.

0836: More than 20 000 people had cast their vote by 6pm yesterday in Kariba against an estimated 26 000 registered voters.

0722: In Magunje, collation centres are now starting to statistics from polling stations.

0230:Vote counting reportedly underway in most polling stations across the country after Zimbabweans turned out in their millions to cast their votes. The process is expected to continue in earnest today.

2324:Round up voting ended peacefully at most polling stations in Zvishavane and Mberengwa constituencies. There was  only one ward in Zvishavane where voting hours were extended to allow all voters to cast ballots. People who spoke to The Herald expressed satisfaction on how the polls were conducted. While all polling stations were closed at the official time, queues at most voting stations disappeared before 5pm.

2300: “Things were very quiet and peaceful with no reports of any incidents during the course of the whole day.The queues were manageable and efficient, something i believe was attributable to voter education and efficiency of police and ZEC officials,” said Superintendent Chari who was the constituency commander for Sanyati.

2217: A Zanu-Pf candidate in Mhangura, Cde Douglas Mombeshora says victory is certain. The only question is by how much.

2207: Most polling stations had closed by 7pm, the stipulated closing time in Muzarabani.

2206: MASHONALAND Central provincial elections officer Ms Thenjiwe Mnkandla  says no polling station will be closed before prospective voters are cleared. This follows reports of long queues at Progress Shopping center in Bindura, Manhenga in Bindura South, Gwakwe in Guruve South and Kamutsenzere in Mt Darwin, among other places where queues were still long by 7pm, the stipulated closing time.

2200: Council results to be announced tomorrow at polling stations while those for the House of Assembly are to be announced at constituency Command centers as and when they come in. Affixing of all election results outside polling centres to be done tomorrow.

2158: GOKWE Nembudziya constituency chief election officer Mr Martin Manzini said 12 899 had voted by 5pm. 602 were turned away for various reasons whilst 952 were assisted to vote. Five centres by 2100hrs were yet to send figures owing to network problems.

2150: Voting ended peacefully in Gokwe-Chireya as polling centres closed at 7pm serve for St Joseph’s Primary School polling station where voting ended at 2100 hours.

2144: KARIBA – The majority of makeshift polling stations in Nyamhunga, Mahombekombe and Kariba heights have no electricity and officials are verifying votes using torches.

1912:  The Chronicle reports that before the closing time of 7pm, there were no more voters in Gwayi constituency.

1900: A total of 18 535 people have cast their votes in Norton since morning. 1 813 were turned away as their names were not on the voters roll whilst some went to wrong wards or failed to produce registration slips from the RGV.

18:50: Police have arrested 40 cross-boarder buses carrying 111 people with the intention of border jumping. It is yet to be ascertained if they are all Zimbabweans. 11  bus crew members have been arrested.

18:38:  Another arrest was in Mabvuku where Fransisco Zhuwawo caused chaos in Mabvuku-Tafara where he is an aspiring councilor candidate. Zhuwawo ran over two voters in an attempt to evade arrest. Police also arrested Joseph Sindawawu who stole a bag containing more than US$1 000 from an Ethiopian observer in Harare.

18:34:  Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba says the atmosphere had been calm throughout many centres as people cast their vote. She was addressing journalists later this afternoon in Harare.  She however said they had received three cases of stolen copies of the voters roll in Budiriro. The accused is MDC-T agent identified as Anna Bvute who is currently in police custody. Also in Masvingo, Cosmos Kamba was arrested after he was found in possession of SV11 forms.

1753: Guruve North: Polling officers agree to increase the number of personnel verifying a person’s eligibility. They have also agreed to increase polling booths. Approximately 15 000 people had cast their vote by 4 pm, while 594 had been turned away for various reasons.

1739: Zanu PF candidate for Hurungwe Central Cde Sarah Mahoka says she was pleased with the voter turnout in her constituency.

1736: By 5 pm, there were still long winding queues in Hurungwe East.

1733: In Hurungwe Central, presiding officer MrJervas Bowora said there were no cases of political violence though there were reports that Jomic members were going near the polling stations urging people to vote for MDC-T. A teacher at Chipango Primary polling station was also allegedly doing the same. Zanu PF parliamentary candidate for Hurungwe Central Cde Godfrey Beremauro says his party has since reported the matter to ZEC offices.

1717: Voting at Matau Primary School in Hurungwe had queues that had  mostly the elderly. At Chivakanenyama there were long queues of up to more than 400 people. Presiding officer Mr Edmore Kondo said the availabililty of only one voters’ roll was delaying the process and they were not likely to clear the people.

1356: In Chikomba East chief elections officer Mr John Gumunyu said 3 817 people had cast their ballots by midday without any single case of violence having been reported. The constituency has got 31 polling stations but is failing to access one polling station due  to communication problems.

1158: President Mugabe said the elections are being done  constitutionally and present a chance for the people to demonstrate how they should be governed. Soon after voting together with the first family President Mugabe claims of vote rigging by the MDC-T were mere politicking and said the voting process has gone well so far. He also said Zanu PF will pursue the indigenisation programme vigorously as there is no alternative to the programme.

1142: Zapu leader Dumiso Dabengwa cast his vote at 9:10am and said he anticipates a change through the people’s vote.

1139: In Matobo North Constituency, voting started off well with 90 percent of the polling stations opening at 7am, according to Mr Marko Dube the presiding officer at the command centre at Matopo Research Station. There are 43 polling stations in the constituency and at Matopo Research Primary School, ward 25, about 65 people had voted at 8:30am.

0837: Buhera West was under MDC-T  with Advocate Eric Matinenga. Senior police officer Oliver Mandipaka (Zanu PF) is battling it out with Moses Mutyasira (MDC) and Jason Matewu (MDC-T).

The process was done in the presence of different party election officers. At Murambinda Business Centre rank polling station, voting started at 7:10am with more than 50 people having gathered at the station.
