2015: The pronouncement of President Robert Mugabe as winner of Zimbabwe’s harmonised elections marks the end of the coalition government adopted in 2008 and paves the way for his inauguration on a date that is yet to be announced. 

1900: President Mugabe has been declared winner of the presidential election giving him another five year term as President of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

1719: Mr Tsvangirai claims President Mugabe needs him and institutions such as Sadc.

1714: The MDC-T leader said he would decline if approached to join the Government but does not regret participating in the elections although he will not endorse what he calls an illegitimate Government.

1712: Mr Tsvangirai said his party was concerned about assisted voters and will not recognise institutions set up by Government. He called for a Rerun.

1710: The local media has now been allowed in and Mr Tsvangirai has dismissed the elections and will soon meet with Sadc. The party will call for investigations into the printing of ballots.

1639: The Herald and ZBC reporters are still locked outside.

1633: Local journalists are struggling to get into the press conference set to be addressed by MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai at his Highlands residence. Journalists have to write down their names and wait for confirmation before being allowed inside.

1556: Zanu PF has reached the two thirds majority in the House of Assembly after getting more than the four seats the party needed to reach 140  seats. The results are still being announced right now.

1408: Results of the presidential vote will be announced later today.

1215: Zec will announce results of  the 27 remaining constituencies at 2pm.

0943: Zimbabweans have been urged to resolve issues concerning the elections peacefully rather than disturbing the peace.

0941: Zec has been urged to address the challenges faced during the conducting of special votes. The mission described the elections as peaceful saying: “It was a beautiful surprise the way Zimbabwe conducted its elections.”

0937: The mission commended the peaceful way campaigns were held, the orderly and professional way elections were held. The mission said it was clear that the polling officers were adequately trained and recommended that in the future more time be allocated to voter education and inspection of voters roll.

0934: The mission voiced its concern with regards voter education which it said was constrained by limited time before the holding of the harmonised elections elections. The commission said they were concerned that the voters roll was available two days before the elections. Zimbabweans have been encouraged to remain peaceful as they wait for results.

0930: The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) observer mission is holding a press conference in Harare right now. They have commended the new constitution for allowing women and those with disabilities to to participate in development issues.

ZIMBABWE HARMONISED ELECTIONS 2013: DAY FOUR (August 3)

2130: STAR FM reports that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will announce the last batch of the 2013 Zimbabwe harmonised election results tomorrow, August 3, 2013.

2056: STAR FM interviews Cde Joseph Chinotimba:  “(I am) as happy  as a traditional healer who has prescribed medicine for a king. I have been in the race but I think God’s time was not on, but I later realised that God wanted me to represent the people in the vilage. Tsvangirai was told by the people but did not listen. We were happy when we found out that “mwana wekwedu aita prime minister”. (But) he did not maintain the Murambinda-Birchenough road. What he did was getting married and making a spaciuous garden for his mother. “Thanks to the people for realising that it is not Mugabe who made the supermarket empty. lets be proud of our own, from now on let us print t-shirts prescribed Mugabe and our local names and do away with Obama and the British. “

2014: Of the total results announced by ZEC so far Zanu-PF has 137 seats whilst the MDCT is trailing with 48.

1524: The challenges that were faced during the just ended harmonised elections did not hinder Zimbabweans to freely express their will, Head of the AU Observer Mission General Olusegun Obasanjo has said.
Gen Obasanjo said this during the presentation of the mission’s preliminary report of the elections.

1323: Zec has today announced results of 57 constituencies bringing the total number of House of Assembly seats now known to 119. Of the 57 announced today 24 were Zanu PF and 33 MDC-T.  Midlands,  Manicaland, Harare, Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South are the provinces that provided today’s results.

Zanu PF made significant inroads into Harare Metropolitan Province by scooping five seats of the 20 announced with Harare South recording a massive voter turnout where 29 074 people cast their ballot.

1300: Sadc has urged candidates to respect and accept the results saying whoever is aggrieved should not resort to violence but engage in dialogue. The head of the observer mission Mr Bernard Membe urged Zimbabweans to exercise restraint and patience while they wait for results.

1249: Sadc Observer Mission is currently holding a press conference and they have said the elections were peaceful and Zec conducted the elections in a transparent manner.

1211: The European Union today commended Zimbabweans for turning out  to vote in  large numbers and described the elections as peaceful.

In a statement issued by her spokesperson Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission said the EU recognised the importance of the elections for Zimbabwe and SADC.

“She commends the people of Zimbabwe for turning out in large numbers to cast their votes, in what were broadly peaceful elections. She calls upon on all parties to maintain calm and order as the results of the poll become known,” read the statement.

The High Representative thanked Sadc and the African Union for their efforts and encouraged them to continue supporting the process.

“The European Union is following events closely, in close consultation with SADC, the AU and other observers including civil society, in advance of the official results. It will await the assessment of SADC and the AU on the process and reported irregularities, as well as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s official announcement of the results, before announcing its own assessment,” concluded the statement.
