LUKE Jongwe’s brilliant half century helped Zimbabwe post 205 runs and gallop to an 84-run victory over the United Arab Emirates in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 11th place play-off tie at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium Nursery 1 in Abu Dhabi yesterday.
Jongwe’s 80 came from 111 deliveries, seven boundaries and a six, to bring his tournament tally to 219 runs in six matches at an average of 54.75, including three half centuries.

Herbert Chikomba and Kieran Geyle took three wickets apiece for Zimbabwe’s teenage cricketers.
UAE could only manage 121 runs in their reply.

Skipper Malcolm Lake won the toss and opted to bat but his top order fell apart with five wickets falling for 78 runs by the 20th over.
But Jongwe was there to steer the ship to safety.

Moazz Qazi removed Kieran Geyle (27) and Ryan Burl (6), both caught behind, while Lake was caught and bowled by Justin James for 19. But Jongwe salvaged the innings, forming a 77-run partnership for the sixth wicket with wicket-keeper Shoun Handisiri before the later went for 38 runs. Zimbabwe’s last four wickets went for 50 runs.
