Commenting on the feasibility of increasing the initiation of ARVs to people living with HIV from a CD4 count of 350 to 500 under the proposed new World Health Organisation guidelines, Ms Beagle said it was a process that might take time.

“I think that we are in a process and that it is something which comes about over time.We are very pleased that the Global Fund has just recommended some very important financing for Zimbabwe. The funds will be used in priority areas to scale up treatment particularly for children, to work with most at risk populations that will help us to prevent the mother to child transmission of HIV and to hopefully achieve an HIV-free generation,” she said.

In her three-day visit, Ms Beagle will have a series of meetings with various Government officials from Ministries of Finance, Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Health and Child Welfare, Global Power Women Network Africa and parliamentarians among others.

She is also scheduled to visit HIV sites in and around Harare.
