Zimbabwe should strengthen its economic ties with Indonesia in order to boost economic recovery, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa has said.Ambassador Mutsvangwa was speaking at the Eid Mubarak celebrations to mark the end of the month-long fasting in the holy month of Ramadan.

Ambassador Mutsvangwa said the good relations between Zimbabwe and Indonesia must help resuscitate the Zimbabwean economy.

“Indonesia has a stable economy and we have a very good relationship with them and we want to maintain that.

“We can benefit from the relationship in various sectors of the economy such as through soya bean, beef and textile industry exports,” said Ambassador Mutsvangwa.

He said Indonesia and Zimbabwe have a lot in common and the two countries have embarked on indigenisation programmes.

“Indonesia has a strong indigenisation programme that has put in place various measures so that the country can gain more from its resources. At present they have a policy which stipulates that all multinational companies in the mining sector should employ local smelters so that their country benefits fully from the extraction of minerals,” Ambassador Mutsvangwa said.
