Talent search show Zimbabwe Has Talent could become the top multi-genre national arts contest if the thrilling semi-finals of the show held on Sunday at Wing Wah Restaurant in Harare are anything to go by. At least 30 talented contestants battled it out to be amongst the 15 who will contest in the finals set for October 17 at Long Cheng Plaza. The event is a joint venture between Zimbabwe and China and is aimed at enhancing cultural exchange between the two nations.
Amongst the artists that took part in the semi finals were magicians, cyclists, singers and dancers who dominated the show.

At least eight dance groups took part and among the groups were a Glen View dance group Sesfikile, which comprises four young dancers, a Dzivarasekwa seven-member group called The Incredibles and The Third Way dance group among others.

A Bulawayo magician only identified as Sam left the audiences in awe when he performed some of his magic that included consuming fire and changing a cigarette into a $1 note among other incredible performances.

Another touching act was when an 11-year-old dancer, Sean, left the crowd clamouring for more with his outstanding dances prompting one of the organisers of the event Zivanai Zhau to ask him what he would do with the $3 000 prize money if he wins it.

He said he will buy a wheel chair for his grandmother who got paralysed last year and use the remainder for his school fees.
The competition’s public relations officer, Rumbidzai Matinanga, said they were happy that they have managed to scout for talent in the country. She said the show will go a long way in empowering young talented artistes who did not have a platform to showcase their skills.

“The show seeks not only to unify local and the Chinese people but help identify talented people that could be making a living out of their gifts but have not had the opportunity to showcase it,” she said.

The winner will walk away with $3 000 while the second finalist will get $1 500 and the third one will get $800 courtesy of ZLG Purified Water.
The winner will also get an opportunity to participate at the one of Chinese festivals where he or she will also learn some of their skills, courtesy of the Chinese Embassy.

Organisers are looking for creativity, originality, the knack of entertaining or wowing audience and the ability of combining Zimbabwe and Chinese cultures in one act.
