Harare International Conference Centre will host the inaugural Zimbabwe Gold and Silver Awards on September 12. The award ceremony celebrates Zimbabwean pride showcased by individuals, organisations and companies that have excelled various walks of life such as music, business, drama, sport and modelling among others, from 1980 up to date.
A dinner will be held on July 24 at the same venue where nominees for 80 categories, each with 5 nominees, will be announced.
The theme colours for the high budget dinner event are black and silver for gentlemen and red, gold and silver for ladies.
Event organisers Zimbabwe Global Network Trust co-ordinator Forgiveness Nyakuweka said that the event is expected to match internationally recognised ceremonies.
“An award is an honour, so we want to do this for them, to appreciate how they have raised the Zimbabwean flag high.
“We are encompassing yesteryear stars from as far as 1980 and those from the young generation in order to fully celebrate our identity as proud Zimbabweans,” he said.
He also said that some foreign figures such as former Malawian President Kenneth Kaunda from Malawi and former South African President Thabo Mbeki will also be acknowledged as they contributed immensely to the country.
An international artiste, still to be confirmed will perform on the big day.
“We are still negotiating with City council and relevant authorities to allow us to use Nelson Mandela, Angwa and Jason Moyo roads to ferry all our nominees in brand new limousines from pick-up points to the venue in style.”
Some of the nominees so far include the Black family, Jairos Jiri, Rebecca Chisamba, Acxial Jefferys and Brita Masalethulini.
People are welcome to vote for their favourite nominees and a panel of judges has the final say.
