NATIONAL Darts Association of Zimbabwe president Meynard Moyo has been elected as the new president of the African Union Sports Council Region Five Darts Confederation.

Moyo was ushered into his new post during the region’s junior darts tournament recently held at Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Germiston, South Africa.

Moyo, who had served as the secretary-general for the then Region (ZONE VI) for the past five years, managed to help Zimbabwe to secure three posts in the elections.

NDAZ secretary-general, Stephen Mwarindira, is now the new tournament director for youth (technical) while Cecil Mbofana, who is the current treasurer of the local association, is now the youth co-ordinator.

“This is indeed a milestone for Zimbabwe and a demonstration that we have extremely capable leadership in our National Darts Association,’’ the Sports Commission said in a statement.

“As you steer the Darts Confederation ship, from now going forward, we would like to assure you of our utmost and undiluted support in whatever way possible to make the sport of darts the envy of the continent.

“Gentlemen, your excellent leadership capabilities anchored by a clear vision and clarity of intention have taken you to another level.

“It is our hope and sincere conviction that this is not the end, rather the beginning of an illustrious journey beyond our borders which will result in the sport of darts spreading even beyond the Region.”

At the same elections, Namibia took two posts of vice-president (Ralph Ludwig) and assistant technical-director (Frans Husfieldt).

Malawi got the position of tournament director-chairman through Charles Katola while Tlate Letsie of Lesotho was elected the new treasurer and Neo Badubi from Botswana was elected the new secretary- general.

Meanwhile, The AUSC Region Five Youth Team 2017 is expected to play a friendly tournament with Seychelles on the Indian Ocean island and Mwarindira will be the team manager for the regional team.
