Zimbabweans living in Cape Town were ushered into 2015 in style through a Passa Passa that was held at the popular Jimmy Jimalo Restaurant and Bar on December 31.The annual dancehall fête that was running for the second time this year saw South African-based artistes Bash Mouth Sound, Magyvor, Nyaminyami Sound and Carter B leading the pack in giving a one of a kind crossover for the multitudes that thronged the Long Street venue.

Video clips of the pomp and fun fair at the Passa Passa have been a hit on social media including WhatsApp. While Zimbabwean-based musicians had been tipped to grace the event, the locals went it alone and got merry-makers dancing into the early hours of the morning.
Speaking on the gig, the joint’s owner, James McAdams who is better known as Jimmy Jimalo said the show was by far the most popular they had ever had.

“This event was in response to the positivity we received last year when we hosted our first Passa Passa. The turnout was overwhelming again this year and our sales went up the roof. What was even more exciting were the top notch performances by the artistes who rose to the occasion,” he said.

Besides the musicians, deejays also gave showcased their prowess on the turn table and from their performances, it was clear they were out to prove their mettle.

It was more of a battle of the deejays and emcees as the likes of Ras Reggie all seemed to be outshining one another.

It was youthful Magyvor’s Jimmy Jimalo sound track “freestyle” that proved popular at the Passa Passa.

Nyaminyami Sound, a band that is respected for pioneering Zim dancehall in Cape Town also graced the event and gave revellers a taste of their music.

“The artistes had their best feet forward and it was unfortunate that we had to turn away the rest of the patrons because the place was filled to capacity,” he said.

He said it was because of such incidents that prompted them to open another spacious branch in the next few weeks.

According to Jimalo said those who missed the action on the New Year’s Eve were up for a big surprise as there was at the official  opening.
