Zim cricket team assembles

THE Zimbabwe senior women`s cricket squad has assembled in Harare for a training camp ahead of their tour of South Africa. The squad will be training at Old Hararians Sports Club from 9:30am to 4pm daily, except Sunday. The squad of 18 will be in camp until next Thursday, when the group will be reduced to 14 players who will leave for South Africa the following day.

They will be based in Pretoria for the tour that will run until October. The Zimbabwe women will play five Twenty20 matches and a one-dayer against the South Africa Women’s Emerging Squad, which comprises the players who did not make the final 14 of the South Africa senior women’s squad.

The tour to South Africa is part of Zimbabwe’s preparations for their participation in the International Cricket Council Global qualifier, which will be in Bangkok, Thailand, from the 28th of November to the 5th of December.

Zimbabwe are in Group B of the ICC tournament, with China, Ireland and the Netherlands. The other group has Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea and the hosts. The two countries which finish top at the tournament will join reigning champions Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies in the ICC Women’s World T20 2016 tournament which will take place at the same time as the men’s tournament, in India in March next year.
