Following the successful hosting of the 16th edition of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival in Harare film screenings continue at Midlands State University in Gweru as part of the Outreach2Educate programme called “ZIFFTours”.
ZIFFT trustee Solomon Maramba will lead the screenings and hold an animation workshop entitled “Using Animation As A Tool For Story-Telling”.

ZIFFT coordinator Elton Mujanana said Maramba who is a resident in the city will ensure that the delivery would be of high standards.

“The attractive programme line-up includes award winning film “Nairobi Half Life” which will open the mini-film festival on Friday evening. This is a fascinating story about a young village lad who goes to the city in search of bright lights of Nairobi, but soon finds out why it is now called Nairobbery.

“He finds himself leading a double life of crime and chasing dreams in a concrete jungle with no misgivings,” he said. The animation workshop will be held on Saturday followed by ZIFFT 2014 award winning film (Special Jury Prize) “Sodiq”- a documentary by Nigerian writer/director Adeyemi Michael.

In the evening, the choice screening will be “Dust and Fortunes”, a film by Justice Chapwanya. This is a local film that sets the pace in terms of the direction that local productions must go. Well shot and directed with a brilliant cast, the film also won Best Screenplay at the Awards Night of ZIFFT.

Mujanana said the two-day film and workshop fiesta at Midlands State University is testimony of ZIFFT’s drive to fulfil its Outreach2Educate mandate aimed at taking film to communities that would otherwise be excluded by mainstream film circuits. After Gweru, ZIFFTours will go to Masvingo from October 23-26 and Bulawayo beginning on October 31 to November 2.

ZIFFT is a non-profit trust dedicated to the discovery and development of filmmakers, artists and audiences.

Established in 1997, ZIFFT has distinguished itself as a significant promoter of film in Zimbabwean and around the African continent.
