Government this week expects to receive a final Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation strategy report spelling out how the national broadcaster will be turned around, Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister, Supa Mandiwanzira, has said.
He told The Herald that the draft review process had been completed and that Government now awaits a report done by KPMG Chartered Accountants Zimbabwe.

“We had a meeting with them on Monday and they assured us that by the end of the week a final document would be in place,” he said.

“As you know the audit was in two parts, the detailed forensic audit as well as a turnaround strategy for ZBC. The auditing firm, KPMG, is now finalising the second part of the audit which is the turnaround strategy and we should be getting the final copy this week.”

The Auditor General’s Office commissioned KPMG in February this year, to carry out the audit and come up with a turnaround strategy for the public broadcaster.

ZBC came under heavy criticism after its suspended chief executive officer Happison Muchechetere and his management team were accused of abusing power and mismanaging the corporation.

Deputy Minister Mandiwanzira said Government would ensure effective implementation of the turnaround strategy as well as the forensic audit recommendations as soon as the full report was out.

“I can assure you the issue of ZBC is a top priority for my Minister (Prof Jonathan Moyo) and the entire ministry,” he said.

“The fact of the matter is that the board chaired by Father Gibson Munyoro has been seized with that report and has been working on strategies to address the issues that have been highlighted in the report. The process of reporting the findings to the principals is underway.”
