Zanu-PF Midlands Province has set a target to have 800 000 members undergo Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise by the closure of the programme in January.

In an interview, provincial party spokesperson Cde Cornelius Mpereri said the revolutionary party embarked on a massive voter education and mobilisation drive, encouraging its members and voters to register. Cde Mpereri said Zanu-PF was flexing its mobilisation muscle in preparation for the harmonised elections slated for 2018. He said the province wanted a clean sweep and the highest number of votes in next year’s elections.

“As Zanu-PF Midlands Province, we are mobilising our members and supporters to go and register to vote. We have set a target of 800 000 supporters to register under the new exercise. To win elections we need votes and voters should vote in their numbers. We are oiling our machinery ahead of the 2018 elections. We want another resounding victory as has been the norm,” said Cde Mpereri.

Cde Mpereri said party members in all districts in the province were out in full force mobilising people to go and register as voters. He said they were happy with the turn out so far. Cde Mpereri said the province sent people to undergo training on the electronic registration in Harare, as the party looks forward to starting issuing electronic membership cards.

“We sent our members to Harare for a course on the electronic registration of our party member. We are hoping to start the exercise soons,” he said.

The electronic membership cards, that contain personal details including a mugshot and electronic chips, will also be linked to the holders’ bank accounts to enable automated subscriptions.

POSB will be monitoring and authorising all the financial transactions conducted through the “debit” cards which also bear account numbers on them.
