Zanu-PF is targeting 500 000 voters in Manicaland Province in next year’s harmonised elections.

Speaking during a meeting at Mutare Polytechnic last Friday, the revolutionary party’s secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo said preparations for the watershed elections had begun.

“As we move towards 2018, we should be guided by the figures the party got in 2013. zanu-pf obtained 258 025 votes against 198 875 votes obtained by opposition parties in 2013. With a population of 849 499 being eligible voters, we are targeting to have 510 000 votes in Manicaland.

“We should ensure that zanu-pf wins the elections because it still has unfinished projects, especially under the Zim-Asset economic blueprint,” said Dr Chombo.

He urged everyone to work together for the party’s victory.

“Elections will take place during the first half of 2018 and we should put to shame all detractors, both local and foreign. My department will make sure that all the necessary resources are availed to ensure a resounding victory for the party.

“We have so far seconded four vehicles to every province. More vehicles are coming. Let us mobilise all our members to have the necessary documents required for them to vote. All those who lost their identification particulars should take advantage of the ongoing mobile registration exercise to obtain them,” he said.

Dr Chombo urged party employees to pull up their socks as some of them were working against Zanu-PF ideology.

“We should be true Zanu-PF cadres. Every member should have a membership card and our employees should facility that not to sleep on duty.

“There should be no bhora musango, haunzvengi nebhora, this time rinodonhera pauri.”

“MPs should always be in touch with the grassroots. MPs should desist from the practice of always being in Harare on Parliament business. The vote comes from your constituencies and not Harare.

“So far we only have one candidate in President Mugabe. Those already campaigning should stop it and allow sitting MPs to finish their terms,” said Dr Chombo.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zanu-PF national secretary for war veterans, collaborators, detainees and restrictees, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, said true war veterans rally behind the party’s leadership.

“I want to urge war veterans here in Manicaland not to be misled by a bunch of renegades who are tarnishing the image of the Zimbabwe National War Veterans’ Association by publicly attacking the First Family including their own patron, President Mugabe.

“These renegades were fired from Zanu-PF and you should not associate yourselves with them. If you are against the party’s resolutions, then you have no place in the party,” he said.

The party’s spokesperson, Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo urged members to desist from giving unsanctioned statements to the Press.

“Everyone is not the party’s spokesperson. Yes, we know that the pen is mightier than the sword, but that pen should not be used to insult the party’s leadership,” he said.
