Zanu-PF has started rolling out electronic membership cards to members in Harare as it introduces an automated system that will be the hub of membership information.
The electronic system is meant to manage data efficiently.The new cards are being issued in all the six administrative districts of Harare. More than 300 data capturers, drawn from the country’s 10 provinces, underwent training last Friday and were later dispatched to the districts.

Officially opening a workshop for the data capturers last Friday, Zanu-PF national commissar Cde Webster Shamu said the new electronic system would change the way things were done in the revolutionary party.

“It is change, not in the sense that we are moving away from our ideologies, but a change in that we are moving in line with the changes in technology,” he said.

“This is an advanced stage in the organisation of the party as we have embraced technology.  We want to know the actual membership we have and where they stay, something that will even assist Government in its planning.”

Cde Shamu said every party member would be required to pay US$1 for the new card. “On the monthly subscriptions which will go towards running the party, those from the cell to district level will pay US$1, those in the National Consultative Assembly will fork out US$5. Central Committee and Politburo members will pay U$10 and US$20 respectively,” he said.

Zanu-PF chief administrator Cde Dickson Dzora said the electronic cards would enable users or validators to access all the applicable approved information combined in one package without carrying multiple manuals.

He said after Harare, the new system would be rolled out in other provinces countrywide. Some of the features on the new card include a member’s picture, designation and national identification number.

Cde Dzora said the new card would have a Zim-Switch facility to enable banking and swipe payments at till operations.
